Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Surgical Artistry Modesto Marathon! Come out and volunteer for one of the largest running events in the Central Valley.

You'll have fun, meet great people and enjoy the thrill of victory without having to break a sweat. The success to having a quality event is the volunteers. This is the perfect opportunity to impact the lives of many runners and walkers while creating lasting memories the participants will remember forever.

It takes over 700 volunteers to host an event of this magnitude and without the help of the volunteers this could not be possible. Last year we had participants from all over the United States. Since the marathon course is flat and fast many of the runners were trying to qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon. Because of our awesome volunteers we were able to assist in getting the runners to their goals, qualifying for the Boston Marathon or just accomplishing a personal best.  Feedback from our past participants describes our volunteers as polite, enthusiastic, awesome, helpful, motivating and knowledgeable.

 

 

Volunteer perks:

• Volunteers will receive a special gift, volunteer shirt, meal coupon, city course map & lanyard with important information about your volunteer position.
• There will also be drawings throughout the months leading up to the marathon where volunteers will be eligible to win gift certificates and other prizes for signing up to volunteer.

Individuals and teams are welcome. The more the merrier! Volunteers must be 18 years of age or have parental/guardian consent or be accompanied by an adult, depending on the circumstances. Listed below are categories we need assistance in.

FAQ's for volunteers

Where can I pick up my volunteer instructions and volunteer packet?

Come to Race Expo and there will be a volunteer booth in the lobby with all your volunteer information.  Your volunteer coordinator may coordinate with you prior to the Expo if necessary.

What should I wear?
If working outside, please make sure to wear layers as the weather is changeable this time of year.

What about food?
It is best to bring a snack or lunch given the need for flexibility in assignments. Although we will provide you with a food coupon you may not be able to leave your position until after your shift.

Can I secure my valuables while I work as a volunteer?
Since there are many areas needed in assigning volunteers we cannot guarantee a secure storage area.
